24th EBIA General Assembly: Navigating Challenges and Embracing Sustainability

The 24th General Assembly of the European Bedding Industry Association (EBIA) convened in Prague on September 21st and 22nd, 2023. The event witnessed the participation of around 85 representatives from bedding manufacturers and suppliers. Despite the ongoing challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and geopolitical events like the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the bedding industry has displayed remarkable resilience and adaptability.

EBIA welcomed eight new companies to its membership in 2023, reflecting a collective commitment to address sustainability issues at a European level. This expanded membership base will amplify EBIA's influence in Brussels.
In a bid to be a global partner in sustainability, circularity, and recycling efforts, EBIA collaborated with ABICOL (Brazilian bedding association) and ISPA (US bedding association).

The conference featured insightful presentations and discussions:

Eco-design Focus: Managing Director Frederik Lauwaert highlighted the industry's eco-design journey, emphasizing the
importance of adhering to Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) prioritization.

Keynote Speaker Wim Vermeulen: Vermeulen underscored the critical role of communication in driving sustainable
transitions. His book, "Speak up now! Marketing in times of climate crisis," sheds light on the need for genuine and effective
  marketing strategies for sustainable products.

  International Market Insights:
Simon Dyer, associated with the Sealy brand for over five decades, shared recommendations for conducting business in
the Chinese market, outlining distinctions from the European market.
Ryan Trainer, President of ISPA, provided insights into the US mattress market, addressing sales drivers and
  regulatory/sustainability requirements.

Future of Business in a Health-Conscious World: Christophe Jauquet highlighted mindfulness, nothingness, healing,
and energy as essential components for quality sleep. He encouraged the bedding industry to evolve from offering
commodities to creating transformative experiences for consumers.

Eco-design Panel Discussion: Moderated by David Fitzsimons, the discussion revolved around eco-design practices,
focusing on aspects like durability, longevity, repairability, and transparency.
In closing, EBIA President Mr. Geert Geerkens expressed gratitude to all speakers and attendees for their enriching
contributions. He encouraged industry members to view climate change as an opportunity for responsible action and
  positive transformation.

As a proud member of the association, STELLINI Group remains dedicated to its journey, firmly believing in its capacity to continually introduce innovative measures for enhancing services, products, and advancing the future of the bedding industry.
Looking ahead, the 25th EBIA Annual meeting is scheduled for September 19th and 20th, 2024 in Málaga, Spain, promising to be a significant milestone in the association's history.
